Presentation of Results_SIMOLDES 4.0:

On 27 February 2022, at 2:30 pm, the Results Dissemination Session of the R&TD Project took place at the premises of the company Simoldes Aços.

This dissemination is in co-promotion with #SIMOLDES4.0 – Injection moulds with artificial vision and intelligent sensing.

This R&TD project of the Simoldes Group, led by the company Simoldes Aços, had the participation of CENTIMFE*, as well as the participation of the University of Minho and took place between September 2016 and November 2019.

#SIMOLDES 4.0

SIMOLDES 4.0: INJECTION MOULDS WITH ARTIFICIAL VISION AND INTELLIGENT SENSING

Co-funded by COMPETE 2020, the “Simoldes 4.0” project is developed in co-promotion with Simoldes Aços, CENTIMFE and the University of Minho.

The main objective of this project is to develop an efficient mould that integrates artificial vision and intelligent sensing, based on innovative monitoring solutions incorporated inside, which go beyond the usual temperature and pressure control.

This efficient mould incorporates advanced systems for a continuous and effective control of certain technical and process parameters, ensuring that the parameters regulating the systems are within the standard processing window and that other values of the operating variables show a regular and safe operation that maximises efficiency and productivity.

The project has the support of COMPETE 2020, under the Incentive System for Research and Technological Development, in the co-promotion strand.

Total Eligible Cost (Simoldes Aços, SA): €928,776.36
Financial Support (Simoldes Aços, SA): ERDF – €536,876.68
Period of execution: 01-09-2016 to 31-08-2019

Simoldes’ Additive Manufacturing team at FormNext 2021

The Simoldes Group team (Simoldes Tools) responsible for the NanoSim 3D Project (Additive Manufacturing) was present at Formnext: where ideas take shape!

Objective: to show what is done in the Simoldes Group, both in terms of practical application in the product and in terms of R&D (Research and Development) project.

What is the NANO SIM 3D Project?

NANO-SIM 3D project is divided into two areas with different lines of research and aims the development of new nanocomposite materials based in metallic and thermoplastic matrixes.

Basically, NANO-SIM 3D, is the Development of new metallic and thermoplastic matrix composites)

One of the areas of research is based on the development of new formulations, incorporating metallic matrix nanocomposites, for the production of innovative new molding components using additive manufacturing techniques.

The other area of research intends the development of thermoplastic components using polymer matrix nanocomposites. This for the production of innovative new molding components using additive manufacturing techniques. The solutions to be implemented in the scope of this project will be in the frontline of future applications in a wide range of industries (e.g., mobility, packaging, houseware, etc.).

With an overall investment of 3.793.894,69€, this project is co-financed under Portugal 2020 Program in 3.037.303,13€ from European Regional Development Fund.

NANO-SIM 3D project is a three years project, from December 2018 to November 2021.

Simoldes Aços as promoter, Simoldes Plásticos and CICECO from Aveiro University as co-promoters.
